Marivic and her visionary work continues…
Marivic Barbosa-Gallimore started her wedding planning consultation business in 2009 and has since coordinated successful events for the local wedding business community.
Marivic was born and raised in the beautifully tropical country of the Philippines. Her 25+ years in Accountancy and Management, for both corporate and small businesses in the US and Philippines, was full of challenges and hard work. In 2009, while still working full time at a local university, Marivic received her certification as a Wedding Consultant and Event Planner through the prestigious association of the American Academy of Wedding Professionals. She quickly put her organizational skills to work by coordinating special events for local wedding business community and raising its local profile.
2010 was a very eventful and promising year for Marivic, and it gave her the courage to take her wedding and event planning business into a full time career. Thus, Elegance by Marivic LLC was established. It was in the fall of that same year where she successfully launched her first bridal expo and charity event in Blacksburg, Virginia. It was a free admission event for brides to attend, donations were accepted for a local charity, and the 1st annual “Make-a-Wedding Wish Come True” was the show’s big giveaway. The lucky recipients, a local newly engaged couple that Marivic had interviewed and gifted them as deserving.
With the success of her events, Marivic has since been involved in wedding and event planning, monthly networking events, and community projects. In addition, Marivic is committed in providing university students with internship opportunities. She strongly feels that “life is all about living and giving back to others in need”, and her philanthropic works allows her to do just that. In 2011, under her leadership and support from her family, friends, student interns, volunteers and colleagues, the NRV Bridals and Events came into existence with hard work, patience, and perseverance. She provided members’ support and mentors small business owners and newly start-ups. She continues with a mission of creating an easy and elegant way to connect brides and local wedding professionals.
Marivic is a true visionary, building an organization from regular monthly meetings at local wedding venues, to eventually having several years worth of successful, biannual bridal shows since 2010. In 2013, her non-profit organization had its first print publication, a local member-owned wedding magazine featuring their members’ success stories. Marivic is very passionate about helping brides, grooms, and their families plan their memorable event. Most of her weddings were held at various local venues in the New River Valley, Roanoke and Southwest Virginia. What really makes Marivic more excited is her affiliation and strong ties with the brides who get married at Silver Hearth Lodge, the ONLY private mountaintop wedding venue in the entire southeast region located in Bent Mountain, Virginia. Together, they average 60-80 weddings during the peak season for couples from all over the country, even including a couple all the way from Honolulu, Hawaii.
Marivic and her husband, Ray, live in Blacksburg, Virginia and have been happily married for 30 years and counting. Ray and Marivic are proud parents to their son Michael, a CPA, currently live/works in Chicago, Illinois. They also have a daughter, Rachel lives with her husband (newly weds), both of them also works in the NOVA. Marivic enjoys traveling with her husband and loves to cook, especially her authentic Philippine dishes.
