It’s Monday FUN-day! The Story Behind Why Event Planning Career?
It’s Monday, FUN-day! As I was writing this blog today, I thought about what a historic day this is. In the United States, most people were out to experience this phenomenal and eventful day, the total Solar Eclipse of the Sun on Monday, August 21, 2017.
Today, I was inspired to revisit my Career Goals and Wants in this Life. Such a perfect day to recommit these 3 Simple Goals and Easy to-do List; and at the same time share with my faithful followers.
First and foremost, 1) I need to Focus the Desires of my Heart; 2) I need a Career that I can be a Solution for others’ needs; and finally, 3) Something that I AM already Passionate about.
In other words, I just need to work more harder on the career that I AM or have been already Passionate about in helping others. Let’s go straight to it and hang tight what I am about to share with you, the exciting story behind why I have chosen the event planning career.
Get ready to embrace the change!
For the last 22 years, I called Blacksburg, Virginia as my residence and 2nd home (Philippines is my birth country). It was in the summer of 1995, when we decided to make a drastic move from the big city of Richmond (about 4 hours away) to Blacksburg.
What a big change, and why Blacksburg?
It is actually my husband’s home town, where I stayed home to raised our 2 children, where I landed on some part time and full time jobs, and eventually started my wedding & event consulting career in this town. It’s in this community where I’ve met so many wonderful colleagues, made very good friends, and kept some of my long time connections in the wedding industry.
Yes, Cheers to happily married life going on 31 years. We’ve been blessed with 2 beautiful children, proud parents to both who are now young adults and successful in their own careers. Our son Michael (29 years old), a CPA currently live & working in Chicago; and our daughter Rachel (she’s 27 years old, newly wed). She and her husband Chris, currently live & working in Northern Virginia. We also have 2 beautiful cats, both were stray and rescued.
Blacksburg is considered a diverse University town, population of over 45,000 people, located in the Southwest region of Virginia and the home to Virginia Tech, a state funded and research university.
In 2009, when I made one of the biggest decision of my career. My background was in Accounting and Management. I left my corporate job, with 20+ years of experience working for someone else. Not to mention, we’re home empty nest at that time; since both kids had left for College… And so one day, I felt the need for a change!
I knew that there’s more better in life than just working at my 7-4 job!
Let me ask you, what’s your GO to search engine when you have a question? Google and Facebook are 2 of the most popular. Back in 2009, I did just that. I went to Google Search and asked ~ What’s the most fun career?
Lo’ and behold, my search took me to Event Planning – top of the list and the most FUN career! I went on and followed my dream. My entrepreneurial spirit within me started to give my life some excitement.
Few months before I left my last job, I decided to take the Certification with a prestigious organization, the American Academy of Wedding Professionals. Since 2010 I’ve been successfully planning and working on events for clients, and the rest was history!
According to Google search the word, con·sult·an·cy – noun, a professional practice that gives expert, professional advice within a particular field.
As a Certified Wedding & Event Planner, I considered myself an Expert in the events planning field, providing professional services to my clients, future brides, grooms and their families. Most couples after their engagement, don’t know what to do next.
